Myrna Figueroa
Hewitt Associates
Orlando, FL
Since October 2001, Myrna has been volunteering as a tutor with Time to Read, an AOL Time Warner nationwide volunteer literacy program. Although she is employed full time, married and has 3 daughters, She still finds time to give back to the community by helping at least one child enhance their reading skills and encouraging them to find joy, pleasure, and excitement when reading. The program requires one academic year of participation with 1 - 1½ hours of tutoring every week.
The program started in 1985 to address the crisis of low levels of literacy among children and adults, currently it operates in more than 400 locations across the country, involving more than 29,000 tutors and learners. Program locations range from schools and adult-education centers to prisons, libraries, churches, community centers, clinics and homeless shelters. Time To Read works with adults and teens who read at or above the fourth-grade level and with children in grades 2-6.
Other volunteer programs which Myrna was involved in were The Annual Teach-In, Habitat for Humanity and the Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon , which is a FUN-raising event to help Junior Achievement raise funding to provide programs to over 97,000 students during the 2001-2002 school year.
Thank You Myrna for your volunteering efforts. You are making a difference in people's lives!!!
